How to scan a QR code on your phone or computer

  1. Press Scan with camera and allow camera access, or choose Upload an image.
  2. Hold the code steady inside the frame, or pick a clear photo or screenshot.
  3. Check the decoded text. If it is a link, review the address before opening it.

Most phones can already scan QR codes with the built-in camera app. This online scanner is useful on a computer, for a saved screenshot, or when your camera app does not show a link.

QR code scanner questions

How do I scan a QR code online?

Press Scan with camera and point your device at the code, or upload a screenshot or photo that contains it. The decoded text or link appears instantly. Nothing is installed.

Is this QR code reader free?

Yes. The online QR code scanner is free to use with no account and no limit on how many codes you read.

Is it safe? Are my images uploaded?

Images and camera frames are processed in your browser and are never sent to a server. Before opening a scanned link, check the address shown, because QR codes can lead to malicious sites.

Can it read barcodes too?

In browsers that support the built-in barcode detector, such as Chrome on Android and desktop, it also reads common barcodes like EAN-13, UPC-A and Code 128. In other browsers it reads QR codes only.

Why will my camera not start?

Allow camera access when your browser asks, and make sure no other app is using the camera. The camera needs a secure (https) page. You can always upload an image instead.

Can I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Yes. Choose Upload an image and select the screenshot or photo. Make sure the whole code is visible and in focus.
