QR code tracking with scan analytics
Use a dynamic QR code and every scan is counted. See when people scan, on what kind of device and from which country, without adding anything to your destination page.
What the analytics page shows
Total and recent scans
A running total for the code, plus how many of those happened in the last 7 days.
Scans over time
A chart of daily scans for the last 30 days, so you can see a poster launch or an email campaign land.
Device breakdown
Whether people scan on mobile, tablet or desktop, with your top device highlighted.
Top locations
Your leading countries, estimated from the visitor's network address at the moment of the scan.
Recent scans and CSV export
A table of the latest scans, and a CSV download with timestamp, device, browser, operating system, country, city and referrer for your own analysis.
Feedback and leads, where they apply
Feedback codes summarise the ratings and comments people leave. Contact-card codes list the details visitors choose to send you.
How tracking works
- 1
Create a dynamic code. The QR image holds a short link on this site, not your final destination.
- 2
When someone scans it, their phone opens the short link, we record the scan, and then forward them to your destination.
- 3
Open the code in your dashboard and choose Analytics to see the totals, charts and recent scans.
- 4
Change the destination later and the same printed code keeps counting.
What is and is not collected
Stored per scan
- Date and time
- Device class, browser and operating system
- Approximate country and city
- Referring page, when sent
Not stored on the scan
- The visitor's IP address (used only to estimate location)
- Name, email or any account of the scanner
- A cookie or ID that follows them between scans
Feedback and contact-card codes only store what a visitor chooses to type into those forms. See the privacy policy for the full picture.
Tracking questions
Can I track a static QR code?
No. A static code contains your data directly, so scanning it never touches our servers and cannot be counted. To measure scans you need a dynamic code, which goes through a short link first.
What does a scan record contain?
The time, a device class (mobile, tablet, desktop or TV), browser name, operating system, an approximate country and city, and the referring page if the scanning app sends one. The visitor's IP address is used to estimate the location and is not saved on the scan record.
Does it identify individual people?
No. Scans are not tied to a person, account or cookie, so the analytics cannot tell you who scanned or whether the same person scanned twice. They show activity in aggregate.
How accurate is the location?
It is an estimate from a public IP address database, so it is usually right at country level and often wrong or empty at city level. Mobile networks and VPNs can place someone in a different country.
Can I combine this with Google Analytics?
You can add UTM parameters to your destination link when you design the code. Your own analytics tool on the destination site will then see them. The scan counts in this dashboard are separate from that.
